Principal's Spotlight on Learning: Safety & Security
by Donny Gunter, principal
At Leclaire Elementary, our responsibility is to create an environment where students and adults are safe. When you arrive at school, our security officer will ask your purpose for visiting the school. This is standard procedure, especially if our security officers do not know you. When you state your purpose for visiting, our officer will allow entry. If you are a visitor to school, the officer will run your information through the security system and print you a temporary identification to wear on your shirt. If you are arriving to pick up a student, the security officer will call the office to alert the secretary. One of our secretaries will check PowerSchool to ensure the person signing the student out has permission to do so. The secretary will then call the classroom to have the student pack up and come to the office where they will meet the adult signing them out.
Our security officers also conduct hourly building/door checks to ensure they have been properly secured by anyone entering or leaving. Our security officers also monitor student safety at recess. Along with our security officers, we have other monitors who ensure student safety outside. Among those are Miss Patty, Miss Sam, Miss Jenny, and Miss Lingyu.
