Cari Wencewicz Appointed Interim Principal of Leclaire Elementary

Edwardsville, IL – The Edwardsville Community Unit School District 7 Board of Education has approved assistant principal Cari Wencewicz to serve as interim principal of Leclaire Elementary School. 

Wencewicz has been serving as Leclaire's administrative leader and overseeing the school's daily operations. She will serve as interim principal until further action is taken by the Board of Education. In this role, she will continue to provide leadership for the school and work with staff and families to support students.  

"Since the beginning of the school year, Mrs. Wencewicz has been doing an excellent job leading Leclaire Elementary,” said Superintendent Dr. Allen Duncan Jr. “It is important that our students, staff, and families know who is leading their school, and right now Mrs. Wencewicz is serving as the interim principal of Leclaire Elementary.” 

Wencewicz has served as an assistant principal in the district since the start of the 2024-25 school year, including as assistant principal at Leclaire during the 2025-26 school year.  

Prior to moving into administration, Wencewicz was a reading specialist at Nelson Elementary and also taught first grade at Leclaire and Goshen Elementary Schools from 2006 to 2013.  

She holds a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Southeast Missouri State University. Wencewicz earned a master’s degree as a literacy specialist from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, along with her principal certificate and an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) in educational administration from SIUE.
